About Me
Hi, I'm Sam and I have been a primary school teacher in Bexley, Greenwich & Kent for over 10 years. I am an expert in securing key concepts and foundations in English and Maths at all primary levels, so that children may advance through their education with confidence, self-belief and a love of learning. S Green Education Ltd tutoring business was formed so I could more effectively champion my vision for education and instil a genuine love of learning in small group settings.
Teaching philosophy
I believe focusing on the holistic development of children is key! Based on my years of experience, I have honed my teaching methods to ensure that students not only excel academically, but also develop a genuine love for learning. Having worked in the corporate world myself, I value developing children not only from an academic perspective, but also aim to embed skills that they will need for their future - such as communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Using my energy and enthusiasm, I encourage and inspire all children to be the best versions of themselves. By taking a genuine interest in them as unique individuals, their hobbies and their likes/dislikes, I build key relationships with children and become their champion! Building self-esteem is done by recognising small wins and showing appreciation of how hard their are trying. Developing a growth mindset, whereby mistakes are welcome and used as a stepping stone for success is also pivotal to my philosophy.
My teaching ethos revolves around fostering a positive and supportive learning environment where students can build confidence, master essential skills, and address any misconceptions they may have. My ultimate aim is to empower students to become confident and proficient learners, equipped with the skills they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
With a focus on small group tuition, I ensure that each student receives personalised attention and support to reach their full potential. My goal is to make learning enjoyable, engaging, and rewarding for every student who walks through the door.
Qualifications & Expertise
I have worked in a range of primary schools across South East London and have had the chance to teach in every year group (from Nursery to Y6), specialising in KS2. I have been Maths Lead as well as Head of French. After several years of rigorous training, I am also a Maths Mastery Specialist. I have a large repertoire of maths games and activities to ensure children master the key concepts in Maths and I am adept at breaking these key learning components into small, understandable steps. I have developed expertise in the mastery approach to teaching maths and have also introduced and embedded this mastery approach into a school in Thamesmead.
- Masters in Education - Distinction
- PGCE Primary Education
- BSc (Hons) Economics & Management - 1st Class Honours
- 5 A-Levels & 9 CGSEs from Bexley Grammar School
Business Background
I haven't always been a teacher and tutor! After joining the British Gas Graduate Scheme, I worked in the city performing a variety of Finance, Analytical, Strategy and Project Management senior roles. As well as using my highly efficient organisational skills, I successfully led large Pricing and Project Management teams across the country through building meaningful relationships and the ability to motivate others to be the best version of themselves. In 2007, I won the B2B Centrica Team Working Award. I possess great communication skills, having had to; negotiate key contracts with large customers (Ministry of Defence, NHS, Whitbread, etc); update and influence Board of Directors; work with other senior managers, in addition to motivating team members and updating large customer facing teams. On the birth of my twins, I decided to retrain as a Primary Teacher for greater job satisfaction.
My hobbies & interests
When I'm not supply teaching or tutoring, you will find me spending time with my family. I enjoy being active and regularly attend my local gym to take part in Zumba & Body Combat classes, as well as going for walks. As well as trying out new recipes, I also take pleasure in reading - especially a crime thriller!
